Arkansas inmate accused in killing cuts his neck

— An Arkansas man accused of killing a woman in Oklahoma is being closely supervised after being treated at a hospital for a self-inflicted neck wound, authorities said.

Elvis Thacker was transported to an emergency room Sunday evening for treatment of a cut to his neck, Sebastian County sheriff’s officials said in a statement. Thacker was being held in the county jail.

Shortly before discovering Thacker, jail staff distributed razors to inmates and gave them a certain amount of time to shave before returning the razors to the guards, Maj. Kevin Nickson said in the statement.

As staffers were retrieving the razors, they found Thacker bleeding from the left side of his neck. The razor and Thacker’s broken eye glasses were collected as evidence.

The incident is still under investigation.

Thacker, who is segregated from other inmates, had the razor for about 20 to 25 minutes, according to sheriff’s officials.

Thacker told detectives multiple times that he was “crazy” and “just wanted to see what it was like,” according to the release.

Thacker pleaded guilty last week to attempted capital murder of a police officer and kidnapping. Thacker was sentenced to 30 years in prison. His brother, Jonathan, pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder and kidnapping. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison, with 15 years suspended.

Those charges stemmed from an attack on a police officer who was questioning the pair.

The brothers still face first-degree murder charges in LeFlore County District Court in Oklahoma for the September 2010 death of 22-year-old Briana Ault. Her body was found in a pit in Pocola, near the Arkansas border.
