92-year-old man killed in two-vehicle crash on I-40

A 92-year-old Kansas man was killed Wednesday after his vehicle was struck while changing lanes on Interstate 40 in St. Francis County, according to an Arkansas State Police report.

Jack Carey of Hutchinson, Kan., was traveling west on I-40 at mile marker 243 at 8:02 a.m. in the right lane when he attempted to enter the left lane in front of a second vehicle, state police said.

That vehicle, a 2009 Toyota Corolla, struck Carey's vehicle, a 2009 Volvo, according to the report.

Travel conditions at the time of the two-vehicle crash were described as clear and dry.

The death was the 442nd in a crash in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
