The Irises

Tall bearded irises — aka "flags" — are old-fashioned favorites in Arkansas gardens. But other kinds of irises thrive here, too, and in very different settings. There are tiny native crested irises on forested hills and water-loving Louisiana irises that enjoy a good swamp. Some irises grow from bulbs; others grow from rhizomes. Gardener Robert Treadway of Carlisle and horticulturist Janet Carson share some photos.
