The Scipio A. Jones house at 1872 S. Cross St. in Little Rock ranked among the most stylish homes in its neighborhood when it was built for the famed attorney in 1928. Jones (1863-1943) was a leader in the black community and known for his successful appeal of death sentences imposed against 12 black men who had been convicted of murder after the Elaine Race Riot of 1919. Preserve Arkansas recently named the Scipio A. Jones House one of Arkansas’ Most Endangered Places.
