ASU-Newport announces spring scholarship winners

— Arkansas State University-Newport has awarded the Jane M. Pratt Scholarship for the spring 2008 semester to Kristina Grigsby, Matthew Morehart, Felecia Reynolds and Mary Hannah Smith of Newport; Stacy Bright and Amber Calendar of Tuckerman; and Jennifer Hinckley of Swifton. Eleven students in total received the scholarship this spring.

Also receiving the scholarship were: John Ford of Newport, Daniel Smith of Tuckerman and Swifton's Shelby Thompson and Timothy Shelton.

Jane Pratt's brothers, W.R. and Richard Pratt, established the Jane M. Pratt Scholarship in her memory. Jane Pratt was an avid supporter of higher education. To receive this scholarship, a student must have graduated from a high school in Jackson County and have financial need.

Sasha Cheshier of Cave City and Jake Shipman of Tuckerman have been awarded the Academic Freshman Scholarship for the fall 2008 semester at ASU-Newport.

Cheshier is the daughter of Steven Cheshier and BrendaMartens. Sasha is scheduled to graduate from Cave City High School this May. She will study nursing at ASU-Newport. Shipman is the son of Michael and Shelley Shipman. He is scheduled to graduate from Tuckerman High School this May.

The Academic Freshman Scholarship is awarded to firsttime college students who have achieved a composite score of at least 24 on the enhanced American College Test (ACT). The scholarship pays full tuition for students who are enrolled full time and maintain a 3.0 GPA the first semester of study and an accumulative GPA of 3.25 for the following two semesters.
