Former Hog Jones put on injured reserve

IRVING, Texas - Rookie running back Felix Jones was officially placed on injured reserve by the Dallas Cowboys on Wednesday, ending what had been a productive season.

Dallas signed defensive back Tra Battle off the San Diego Chargers' practice squad to take his place on the roster and said Battle might play today against the Seattle Seahawks.

Jones (Arkansas Razorbacks) sustained a torn ligament beneath his left big toe while doing rehabilitation on the left hamstring he hurt Oct. 12. The hamstring is healed, but the team said last week Jones would need surgery on the toe and up to six months to fully recover.

Dallas' first pick in last April's draft, 22nd overall, Jones finishes his rookie season with 266 yards rushing on 30 carries, an 8.9 yard average that includes a 60-yard touchdown run. He also had a 98-yard kickoff return for a score and had four touchdowns overall.

Coach Wade Phillips said Battle, who played only one game for the Chargers after signing as an undrafted free agent last year, could play on special teams against Seattle.

Safety and special teamer Patrick Watkins, who has a neck injury that forced him to miss three games last month, was listed as questionable for the game.
