District receives $68K to help out homeless

— Federal stimulus dollars will provide the Fayetteville School District with a $68,000 McKinney-Vento subgrant to aid homeless students.

The Arkansas Department of Education announced the grants ina press release Monday. It said the grants will be for one year only, and the funds are on top of other funds the state receives for helping homeless students.

Fayetteville was one of 14 districts in the state to be awarded the grants, which ranged from $33,000 to $68,000 and the only school in Washington County to receive one.

According to the district Web site, last year the district's Families in Transition Program worked with more than 270 families who met federal guidelines for being homeless.
