LITTLE ROCK — The playing surface at War Memorial Stadium has been named AT&T Field as part of a sponsorship agreement with the corporation, officials announced Wednesday.
The War Memorial Stadium Commission unveiled the new name and emblems at a news conference at the stadium.
The agreement, which marks the first time the field has been separately named, lasts for at least five years. New signs and on-field emblems will be installed this summer.
The commission and AT&T declined to disclose financial terms of the deal, citing competitive reasons.
"As members of the War Memorial Stadium Commission, our goal is to honor our veterans and our citizens by providing a first-class venue for sports, concerts and other events," commission chairman Gary Smith said in a news release. "This partnership with AT&T - one of the world's most respected and recognized brands - will enable us to attain that standard of excellence for years to come."
The stadium was built in 1948 and is the site of two Razorbacks games every year as well as high school football championships. Little Rock Catholic and Arkansas Baptist also play their home games at the stadium, and UAPB takes part in the Delta Classic there.
A renovation of the press box and clubhouse is near completion.
