— Candy Construction Sharon Bowers Storey Publishing, $14.95

Kids + candy = construction? Hmmm, maybe, if all the building materials don’t disappear from the job site. Candy Construction gives easy step-bystep instructions for a craft kids are sure to love.

By sticking to storebought, author Sharon Bowers gets us right to the fun part. Her technique appeals because there is little preparation required - a batch of royal icing glue here, a bowl of cream cheese or chocolate mortar there. Add store-bought candies, cookies and other goodies and let the kiddies create to their heart’s content.

Unwrap some snack cakes (you know, the ones your kids beg to have in their lunch box) to make the delightful Fudge Brownie Steam Train, constructed from pre-made brownies and “Swiss Rolls” with peppermint-candy wheels. Or construct a pirate ship from Rice Krispies Treats with a pretzel mast and fruit leather sails. People it with pirates made of licorice bodies and candy corn feet.

Sweet!
