— 100 YEARS AGO Sept. 26, 1910 TEXARKANA - A movement is on foot having for its object the lighting of Broad, the principal business street of the city, by the use of natural gas. It is proposed to place such lights every 50 feet along the street, and in addition it is practically assured that many merchants will put in lights of their own in front of their stores. The project will be taken up by the Boosters’ Club and discussed at their next meeting, which will be held Tuesday night.

Davis was in Hot Springs today attending a meeting of the Southern Regional Educational Board. Constantine Nicholas, student body vice president, reported that theboycott was 100 percent effective. He said most of the students were obtaining cards to drop all classes.

Wednesday was just another business day in downtown Little Rock, except for an occasional explosion and terrorist attack. The explosions and attacks were staged by an Ohlmeyer Communications Companies film crew that was filming some scenes for “Under Siege,” a three-hour television movie for NBC. Most of the movie’s scenes will be filmed in Arkansas. 10 YEARS AGO Sept. 26, 2000

Sunday’s soaking rain broke one of the longest, most destructive fire seasons on record, giving state firefighters some long-overdue rest, officials said Monday. No fires were reported Monday to the Arkansas Forestry Commission, and all but 16 of Arkansas’ 75 counties were clear of burn bans by the afternoon. Since the first of July, firefighters have battled 1,425 fires that have ravaged 17,766 acres in Arkansas - almost three times the yearly average of 470 fires over 5,825 acres.
