UPDATE: Three officers indicted in armored car robbery scheme

— Three officers, including one with the Little Rock Police Department, have been federally indicted along with two other Pulaski County men for their purported roles in a conspiracy to rob armored car employees.

Little Rock Police Department officer Jason Gilbert, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Officer Allen Clark and University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Officer Sterling Omar Platt were each indicted on conspiracy charges, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas Christopher R. Thyer said in a news release. Antonio T. Person, of North Little Rock, and Mark Davis, 41, of Little Rock, were also named in the indictment.

The Little Rock Police Department issued a statement about Gilbert, who has been on the force since 2003, primarily in the patrol division.

Gilbert was placed on administrative leave Sept. 17 after dual investigations into his off-duty conduct in a separate matter, the department said. In that matter, Gilbert was charged with theft by receiving and forgery. Arkansas State Police have also charged him with a DWI.

LIttle Rock Police Chief Stuart Thomas expressed disappointment over a department employee being accused of violating the law and his oath of office.

In the federal case, authorities say the men plotted to rob armored car employees and that Person also carried out one such robbery on Sept. 10, 2007.

In that incident, an Arkansas Armored Car employee was robbed at gunpoint of about $400,000. He was delivering money to a U.S. Bank branch in North Little Rock at the time.

Two other men were also charged in that robbery and are awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty, the U.S. Attorney's office said.

The conspiracy and robbery charges carry a prison term of up to 20 years and up to a $250,000 fine. A separate 7-year addition to the sentence would is added if a firearm was brandished during a robbery.
