Fayetteville lawyer seeks state appellate-court seat

— A Fayetteville lawyer announced this week that he plans to run for a position on the Arkansas Court of Appeals.

Kenneth Hixson will seek the position held by Judge W. Douglas Martin, who was appointed by Gov. Mike Beebe to fill the seat left vacant by Justice Courtney Henry after she was elected to the state Supreme Court.

An election will be held for three other positions on the court in 2012. A full term for an appeals court judge is eight years.

The other positions that will be open for election are those held by Judge Raymond Abramson, District 1, Position 2; Judge Cliff Hoofman, District 2, Position 2; and Judge John Robbins in District 4. Abramson has announced that he plans to run for a seat on the state Supreme Court. Hoofman was appointed to his seat and cannot run for it again. Robbins is retiring, a spokesman for the court said.

District 3, the seat Hixson seeks, covers Washington, Benton, Madison, Carroll, Franklin, Johnson and Crawford counties.
