LITTLE ROCK — A Little Rock man was shot to death outside a residence on Colonel Glenn Road early Saturday morning, the fourth slaying in two weeks in the capital city.
About 1 a.m., officers responded to a shooting at 6804 Colonel Glenn Road Lot 60 and found a man, later identified as Francisco Juanes, lying in a pool of blood. Juanes was not breathing and was pronounced dead when a Metropolitan Emergency Medical Services crew arrived, police said.
Juanes’ age and address were not released Saturday.
Officers spoke with Juuen Rocha, 26, and Martin Jacn, 24, at the scene of the shooting. Rocha told police through an interpreter that they were standing outside his residence when two unknown men walked up to them armed with handguns, police said.
The gunmen robbed the men, and one of the gunmen struck Juanes with his gun. Juanes began fighting with the gunman, who then shot him, police said.
Rocha told police that he ran away after Juanes began fighting with the man. The second gunman also ran when shots were fired, Rocha told police.
Jacn told police that he was sitting on the porch when the gunmen robbed Juanes and Rocha. One of the gunmen also walked up to the porch and took Jacn’s wallet at gunpoint before the shots were fired, police said.
No arrests had been made Saturday night.
Juanes’ slaying is the fourth homicide in Little Rock in two weeks and the first since William Blundell, 21, was found dead Tuesday morning in the area of 7724 Geyer Springs Road. An autopsy showed Blundell died from a gunshot wound in his head.
Stephon Cole, 18, of 7510 Geyer Springs Road, Apartment D16 was arrested two days after the killing and charged with first-degree murder.
By this date in 2011, the Little Rock Police Department had recorded 16 homicides. Juanes’ death is the 24th homicide in 2012.
Little Rock police also includes the May 23 accidental shooting death of Tyjuan Woodard, 14, in its homicide totals, raising the department’s count to 25.
