Man, 38, drowns in Arkansas River

— An unidentified man died Sunday night after he walked into the Arkansas River and went under, Little Rock police spokesman Sgt. Cassandra Davis said,

Around 8:30 p.m. at the boat launch at Murray Park, bystanders responded to a woman screaming for help and pulled the 38-year-old man out of the water, said Little Rock Fire Department spokesman Capt. Jason Weaver said. The man was in the water for about four minutes.

The bystanders started CPR, which Little Rock Fire Department firefighters took over when they arrived at the scene. A Metropolitan Emergency Medical Services crew transported the man to St.Vincent Infirmary Medical Center.

Davis said the man was with his girlfriend and other friends when he walked into the river and stepped into an area over his head. She declined to identify the man pending notification of family.
