Souper Bowl Cook-off

BENTON — Habitat for Humanity of Saline County will host its annual Souper Bowl Cook-off from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church Family Life Center in Benton. Have a HeART for Art

HOT SPRINGS — The Garland County chapter of the American Heart Association will host the fifth annual Have a HeART for Art student and teacher art competition and exhibition at 5:30 p.m. at the Artchurch Studio, 301 Whittington Ave. The exhibit is being held in conjunction with the downtown Gallery Walk. Town Hall Meeting

PARON — Saline County Justices of the Peace Barbara Howell of District 4 and James Zahnd of District 13 will hold a joint town hall meeting at 11:30 a.m. at the Paron Community Center on Arkansas 9. Both Zahnd and Howell represent portions of the Paron community on the Saline County Quorum Court. Residents of both districts are welcome to attend.

Southern Gospel Concert

ARKADELPHIA — Lakeview Baptist Church will hold a praise gathering and Southern gospel concert at 6:30 p.m. with performances by Pardoned Ministries of Sheridan; The Hendrix Trio of Texarkana; The Messengers of Song of Caddo Valley; the Breakaway Band of Arkadelphia; and Traci Cooper of Arkadelphia. Plant Society Meeting

HOT SPRINGS — The Ouachita Hosta and Shade Plant Society will meet at 10 a.m. at the Garland County Library, 1427 Malvern Ave. Snacks will be provided at 9:30 a.m. The speaker will be Ruth Etchieson from River Valley Horticultural Products of Little Rock. She will talk about the hosta virus, what is being done in the industry to better understand and control the virus, and how to limit the spread of the virus. Guests and visitors are welcome.

Merry Mixers Dance Club

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — The Hot Springs Village Merry Mixers will hold a dance with live music by the Mullens Band on Saturday at the Coronado Community Center. A Valentine’s Party dance featuring the Village Big Band will be held Feb. 16 at the center. A dance lesson will be given at 7 p.m., followed by dancing at 7:30 p.m. All dancers are welcome. Highlighting the event will be Chad Pregracke, an environmentalist and the founder of Living Lands and Waters, an organization dedicated to the preservation and cleaning of waterways in the United States. Sister City Teacher Scholarships

HOT SPRINGS — The Hot Springs National Park Sister City Foundation will accept applications until March 25 for two teacher scholarships for summer travel to Hanamaki, Japan, Hot Springs’ sister city. Teachers or school administrators currently employed in Garland County public schools are eligible for the program. The scholarship will fully fund travel costs for a seven-day trip to Hanamaki in mid-June. The city of Hanamaki will provide home-stay arrangements, along with tours and educational opportunities. HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — The Property Owners’ Association Board of Directors is soliciting input on the experience, leadership attributes and most important priorities for a new general manager through an online survey. The Central Arkansas Development Council is accepting applications for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program at the following locations: The CADC Administration Building, 321 Edison St. in Benton, 8 a.m. to noon Monday through Wednesday, (501) 778-1333; the Arkansas Workforce Center of Malvern, 1735 E. Sullenberger, 8 a.m. to noon Monday through Wednesday, (501) 337-8401; the CADC Arkadelphia Senior Activity Center, 1305 N. 10th St., 1-4 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays, (870) 246-9871; and Gurdon City Hall, 103 Maple, 8 a.m. to noon Wednesdays, (870) 310-6971. LIHEAP assists households with home energy and heating bills. Eligible households must meet income guidelines and furnish proof of all household income for the month prior to applying.

Junior Auxiliary Scholarships

HOT SPRINGS — The Junior Auxiliary of Hot Springs is accepting applications for the 2013 JAHS Scholarship program through March 1. Applications are available through area high school counselors or by visiting www.juniorauxiliaryofhotsprings.com and clicking on the “scholarship” link. The Junior Auxiliary gives emphasis to students majoring in a child-related field such as speech therapy, nursing, social work, teaching, etc. There is no age restriction for the scholarships. HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — The Property Owners’ Association is soliciting applications from property owners in good standing who are willing to serve on the 2013 Election Day Committee, which oversees the ballot counting for the Hot Springs Village Board of Directors election. The ballots will be counted March 28. Applications will be available, beginning Friday, online at www.hsvpoa.org or at the general manager’s office at the POA Administration Building, 895 DeSoto Blvd. Completed applications must be returned to the general manager’s office by March 1. HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — The Village Genealogical Society will meet at 2 p.m. Feb. 7 in Room 6 of the Coronado Community Center. Anyone interested in family research is welcome to attend. Featured speaker Sheila Beatty will discuss how and where to do research on the Orphan Train riders, which refers to the placement of more than 200,000 orphaned or abandoned children in homes throughout the Midwest from 1854 to 1929.
