Man crossing highway fatally struck by truck

A Tillar man was killed Tuesday when he got out of his vehicle and was hit by a truck while crossing a highway.

It happened about 6:20 a.m. at U.S. 65 South and Arkansas 388 in Lincoln County.

Arkansas State Police say 27-year-old Mitchell Head got out of a vehicle and was crossing U.S. 65 when he was hit by a southbound 2004 Freightliner.

Head died at the scene. The truck driver wasn't hurt.

The report didn't specify why Head was crossing the highway. Conditions at the time were described as wet and foggy.

The death was the 391st fatality in a traffic accident in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
