Lincoln County woman accused of fatally shooting husband

A Star City woman who called the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department at about 7:30 a.m. Monday to report a shooting at 2128 Armstead Road told a responding deputy that she shot and killed her husband, according to a news release from Sheriff Larry McGee.

Sgt. Kenneth Tillman, the responding officer, handcuffed the woman, Christina Lynn Bates, 41, and placed her inside his patrol car. Tillman then returned to the residence and found Glen Bates, 43, unresponsive in the bedroom with an apparent gunshot wound.

Tillman called for an ambulance and responding medics examined Bates before requesting that the Lincoln County Coroner be called.

Coroner Jimmy Hawkins then arrived and pronounced Bates dead. Bates’ body was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for further investigation.

Tillman booked Christina Bates into the Lincoln County jail on probable cause of committing capital murder.

Bates later appeared before Lincoln County District Court Judge Victor Harper, who ordered Bates held without bond pending the filing of formal charges.

Bates is being held at the W.C. “Dub” Brassell Detention Center in Pine Bluff because Lincoln County does not have a facility to hold female prisoners.

The investigation is continuing, McGee said.
