•–––––CHRISTINE GEORGIA DOLLARD, 58, died Tuesday, Dec. 24 at St. Vincent Hospital in Little Rock.

Chris was born in Savannah, Ga., on Jan. 29, 1955, and as the daughter of an Air Force Colonel, has lived in many places. Chris graduated from High School in La Paz, Bolivia, and received her college degree from the University of Oklahoma. In January of 2000, she moved to Little Rock where she worked as a Computer Systems Analyst for Northrop Grumman.

Chris was preceded in death by her father, Oakley J. Dollard; and her two brothers, John and Stuart Dollard. She is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Dollard; and daughter, Sarah Dollard.

Chris was an active member of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church in Little Rock, and part of the Cursillo community. She’s always been an active contributor to her community through her outreach and love for others. She was loved and respected by many, and will be sorely missed by family and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Mary Vano officiating. •–––––ELEANOR AMELIA SMITH DUNNAHOO, 93, of Little Rock, a true Earthly Angel, passed over her bridge to happily meet departed family and friends on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013. She leaves behind her children, Wayne (Betty) Dunnahoo, Marvin (Joanne) Dunnahoo, Carolyn Croswell and Kathy Kohl. Also left to remember her are many loving grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of loyal friends. Passing before her was her son, Harrel Dunnahoo in 1951; and her husband, Benjamin Dunnahoo, who departed in 1986.

•–––––BETTYE CRABTREE OVERTON, age 75, of Jacksonville went to be with her Lord on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013. She was born July 5, 1938 in Helena, Ark. to the late John H. Crabtree Sr. and Ina Linson Crabtree. She was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, and a retired school teacher. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Ann Crabtree. Mrs. Overton was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Joe E. Overton Sr.; one son, Joe E. Overton Jr. and his wife Mary; one brother, John H. Crabtree Jr. and his wife Patricia; three grandchildren, Audie Overton and his wife Moriah, Christina Overton, John Overton; one great-grandchild, Aayla Overton; one nephew, John H. Crabtree III; and one niece, Katherine Crabtree Cook.

•–––––HEATHER ANGELIQUE BRIGGS SILLAVAN, 44, of Mabelvale went to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013. Heather touched everyone she met with her unconditional love and generosity. She was always trying to find ways to help someone who she felt was in need. The joy of her life was her two sons and she will always be remembered for her complete selflessness and devotion to her family and friends. A spirit of excellence covered her in whatever she set her hand to do, whether it was caring for the elderly in her role as director of nursing homes in Fayetteville, Nashville and Little Rock, Ark. or in her role as wife, mother, daughter and sister.

She was born in Pine Bluff, Ark. She graduated from Central High School in Helena, Ark. 1987. She attended Arkansas State University in Jonesboro in 1988 and graduated in 1992 from Arkansas Baptist Nursing School as a registered nurse.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry of the home; two sons, Ryder Slade and Wyatt Rayder; brother, Roman N. Briggs of Bisbee, Ariz.; and parents, Ronald K. Briggs and Mona R. Briggs of Bryant. Arrangements are by Dial and Dudley Funeral Home in Bryant, Ark.

•–––––AUSTIN — William Augustus Kennedy, 88, of Austin, Ark., passed away at his home in Austin, Ark., on Dec. 31, 2013. He was born Dec. 6, 1925, in Abilene, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; three sisters; his wife and the mother of his children, Mary Elva Kennedy; and his wife, Marie Babrick Kennedy. He is survived by his three children, Mark (Anita) Kennedy of Houston, Mo., Le-Vonna (Tony) Uekman of Quitman, Ark., and Cindy Neal of Austin, Ark. He is also survived by six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a dear friend, Annett Pagan; caregiver, Dale Brown; grand-dog, Lacy; and many more family and friends.

He was a WWII veteran and a retired registered nurse at the VA Hospital. He enjoyed traveling and was an active member of La Petite Roche Good Sam Traveling Club. He enjoyed playing cards, winning many “Skip-Bo” tournaments and also playing dominos at Faith Methodist Church. One of the things he looked forward to each year was hosting the annual sunrise service at his lake for the past 50 years. He was active in Mt. Tabor, Faith, and Bethlehem Methodist Churches.

•–––––BROWN SPRINGS — James Monroe (Jim) Harrison, age 60, of the Brown Springs Community (Hot Spring Co.), died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, at his home. He was born Dec. 20, 1953, to Dolphus and Anna Belle Harrison. He was raised in Union Lake, Michigan, and attended Walled Lake School System. Jim’s family moved to Arkansas during his junior year, and he graduated from Sheridan High School.

Jim served in the Arkansas Army National Guard, served on the Board of Directors for the Brown Springs/ Mt. Moriah Outreach Center and was a member of Anchor Baptist Church. He was a Millwright, Welder and Truck Driver. He enjoyed hunting, traveling, gardening and visiting with his buddies.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dolphus and Anna Belle Harrison.

Survivors are his wife, Pat Harrison; daughter, Angelia Butt (Fred) of Malvern; step-daughter, Pam Coston (David) of Malvern; grandsons, Cole Wesolowski and Nathan Butt both of Malvern; step-granddaughter, Sydney Phillips of Malvern; sister, Barbara Schodowski (Gene) of Malvern; brother, Joseph Harrison (Sandra) of Branson, Mo.; half-sister, Janice Phillips (David) of Greensburg, Ind.; a host of nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia with Pastors James Blackwood, Jessie Newborn and Caleb Lewis officiating. Interment will be in Jones Cemetery at Brown Springs. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

•–––––CONWAY — Taylor Ann McKown, 20, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013.

Taylor was born on April 12, 1993, in Edmond, Okla., and was a lifelong Conway area resident. She worked in the nursery at First United Methodist Church and loved to be around children and care for them. Taylor was also a full time student and attended the University of Arkansas Community College in pursuit of a degree in Early Childhood Education.

She is survived by her father and mother, Bruce and Michelle McKown; brother, Tommy McKown; sister, Tiffany Thornton and husband Robert Thornton; niece, Lanie Thornton; maternal grandparents, Gene and Carolyn Borneman; paternal grandmother, Ellen McKown; a host of friends that were her extended family; her beloved dog, Daisy; and her cowboy boots.

Preceded in death by her grandfathers, Tommy Miller and Bruce McKown.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4 at the First United Methodist Church, which is located at 1610 Prince Street, Conway, Ark.

•–––––FAYETTEVILLE — David Russell Banks of Fayetteville, Ark., was born Feb. 15, 1937, in Arcadia, Wis., to John Russell and Cleone Nelson Banks. He passed away on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, in San Diego, Calif., at the age of 76. Banks was widely recognized as a leader in the long-term care industry, his career culminating with appointment as chairman and CEO of Beverly Enterprises, Inc.

Raised in Harrison, Ark., Banks graduated from the University of Arkansas where he was a proud brother of Sigma Chi fraternity, eventually achieving the distinction of Significant Sig. In 1959, Banks entered the executive training program of First National Bank in Dallas, Texas. He joined the investment firm of Dabbs, Sullivan, Trulock in Little Rock, Ark., in 1963, advancing to vice president and partner in 1967. His career in the long-term care industry began when he affiliated with Stephens, Inc. in the early ’70s. He was elected to the board of Leisure Lodges, Inc., a nursing home company located in Fort Smith, Ark., and in 1975, he was chosen to be chairman of the board of Leisure Lodges.

In 1976, Banks was appointed to the board of directors of Beverly Enterprises, Inc., one of the nation’s largest nursing home corporations. He was elected president in 1979, CEO in 1989, and chairman of the board in 1990. He retired from Beverly at the end of 2001, after unprecedented successes in the long-term care industry.

Banks turned his attention and expertise to new ventures in a broad range of companies. He most recently served on the board of directors of Post Foods, the Walton Arts Center, and the Foundation for the Future of Aging. He also served on the Campaign Arkansas Steering Committee. He is a past member of the governing boards of Ralston Purina, Ralcorp, Wal-Mart Corporation, Agribrands International, Inc., WellPoint Health Networks, and Nationwide Health Properties, Inc.

David Banks was an avid fly fisherman and a major collector of contemporary American art and contemporary ceramics. His favorite times were those spent at Banks Farm with his children and grandchildren. He was most passionate about the gardens at the farm and enjoyed them from his porch with a fine glass of wine and a great cigar. “Never met a stranger” sums up this wonderful, most caring and loving man.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, John Gordon Banks. He is survived by his wife, Rosamond Sample Brown Banks; two daughters, Melissa Gay Banks of Fayetteville; Billie Sunday Banks of Scottsdale, Ariz.; one son, John Michael Banks and his wife, Jamie, of Fayetteville; four grandchildren, Georgie Banks, Olivia Banks, Mary Helen Banks and David Banks II; two stepsons, Stewart Brown of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Garrett Brown of North Little Rock, Ark.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday Jan. 4, 2013, at the Fayetteville High School Performing Arts Center (994 West Martin Luther King Boulevard in Fayetteville) under the direction of Moore’s Chapel in Fayetteville. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Giroir, Larry Grisham, Steve Mangan, Jay McEntire, Jerry Moore, Leroy Freeman and Jim Lipscomb. •–––––MAGNOLIA — Glo Hutcheson Atkinson, 87, of Magnolia, Ark. died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013 at the Magnolia Health and Rehabilitation Center in Magnolia.

She was born July 3, 1926 in Magnolia, Ark to the late Charles Ray and Doris (McMath) Hutcheson Bennett. Glo was a 1944 graduate of Magnolia High School and a graduate of the University of Arkansas where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was active in the Leland Clegg Sunday school class, Chancel choir and the Welkin Ringers Handbell choir. She was also a member of the Magnolia Junior Charity League, New Comers Club and the Chapter AN PEO Sisterhood.

Glo is survived by her husband of 53 years, Dr. James D. Atkinson of Magnolia; daughters, Gail Atkinson of League City, Texas, Jamie Hazlewood of Little Rock, Holly Tubbs and husband Lem of Little Rock, Valerie Sanders and husband Cliff of Magnolia; son, Dr. Ross Atkinson and wife Carol Jo of Hot Springs; grandchildren Chris Atkinson and wife Libby of Benton, J. Michael Hazlewood and wife Becca of Rogers, Dr. Kate Snodgrass and husband Michael of Washington, D.C., Daniel Atkinson and wife Brittany of Little Rock, Drew Tubbs of Little Rock, Quinten Sanders and Barrett Sanders of Magnolia; great grandson, Ethan Atkinson of Benton; and sister, Dorothy Ray Henley of Winston Salem, N.C.

Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at Lewis Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, Jan. 3 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Kelso and Rev. Raymond Cammack officiating under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home, Inc. of Magnolia.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be the Leland Clegg Sunday school class and PEO sisters.

Glo was very active in her church, clubs, and charity organizations and was very much loved by her family and friends. The family would like to thank her caregivers, Martha Sue Robinson, Mae Sue Grissom, Demita Martin, Charlotte Reliford, Jo Anne Carter, Sheryl Hunter, Markeah Lowe, and Lyn Barnes for all their kind and compassionate care they gave to Glo and to our family.

•–––––MARIANNA — Curtis Chambers Jr. was born Feb. 03, 1948 in Helena, Ark. to Curtis Chambers Sr. and Hazel Cook Chambers. Curtis Jr. was the oldest of all his siblings.

He was raised in LaGrange, Ark. and received his nickname ” Kurt” by his friends.

He accepted Christ into his heart as his Lord and Savior at an early age at Mt. Perion Missionary Baptist Church. He graduated from Robert R. Moton High School on May 10, 1969. He married Frances Farris and to this union, four children were born. Curtis joined the United States Army. He served two Tours in the Vietnam War where he earned a Purple Heart because the base was over ran by NVN’s through hostile fire with hand to hand combat. He also received numerous other Medals. After the war he worked for Holst Stead and other plants around Forrest City and Wynne.

Curtis never lost his faith in Jesus Christ. He became a member of Faith Outreach Church in Helena, Ark. under the leadership of Pastor Jim Harrison.

At the age of 65, Curtis passed away at his home in Marianna, Ark. His wife, children, and grandchildren surrounded him to give him strength, love, and consolation as he made his transition to be with the Lord.

Curtis was a man of integrity. He was trustworthy, loving, and very generous. He loved praying, talking and spending quality time with his children. He became a loving man, a caring brother, uncle, great uncle, cousin and friend.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Chambers; two sons, Deion Chambers of Marianna, Ark., Jason R. Chambers of Memphis, Tenn.; one daughter, Judy E. Chambers, of Marianna, Ark.; his parents, Curtis and Hazel Chambers, of LaGrange, Ark.; four grandchildren, Nalisa Green Wade(Troy) of Virginia, Joshua Chambers of Indianapolis, Ind., Jodeci Fowler and Aya White of Marianna, Ark.; four great-grandchildren, Akyla Wade and Jaelyn Wade of Virginia, Ja Hynia Fowler of Marianna, Ark. and Rashaad Fowler of Jonesboro, Ark.; four sisters, Delois and Cathy Chambers of Detroit, Mich., Eliza Young (Lynn) of Longview, Texas, Twanna Chambers of Helena, Ark.; six brothers, Marcus Chambers of St. Louis, Mo., Larry Chambers of Detroit, Mich., Wille Chambers of Forrest City, Ark., Danny C. Chambers (Mable) of Denver, Colo., Otis B. Chambers (Thalia) of Houston, Texas; six aunties, Carolyn Taylor and Hazel Gilbert of Little Rock, Ark., Essie Davis of Chicago, Ill., Debera Currth and Eddie J Jones of St. Louis, Mo.; two uncles, Joe of Mississippi, James of St. Louis, Mo.; five sister-in–laws, Lillie Brown, Peggy Burns, Doris Byars, Mary Nelson, Alberta Robinson, Mary Lawson, Debra Lucky; eight brother-in–laws, Pete Farris, Bobby Farris, Jerry Farris, Calvin Farris, and Dennis, Ronny, Bobby and Nathaniel Lawson; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by one son, Demond Chambers; and three brothers, Davis, Stanley and Joe Chambers.

Services for Curtis Jr. will be held Saturday, Jan. 04, 2014 at 1st Baptist Church in Marianna, Ark. at 2 p.m. Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 03, 2014 from 5-9 p.m. at Roller–Citizens Funeral Home in Marianna. •–––––SLIDELL, La. — John D. Myrick, Jr., age 85, of Slidell, La., passed away Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, in Slidell. He was born July 30, 1928, in Monticello, Ark., the son of the late John D. Myrick, Sr. and Novie Lee Worbington Myrick.

He was a retired accountant, U. S. Navy Veteran of WWII and of the Baptist Faith. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Maylene Huff Myrick; one daughter, Deborah Perkins; and one sister, Mary Myrick Ferguson.

Survivors include one son, Gary R. Myrick and wife Nancy of Anchorage, Alaska; son-in-law, Bob Perkins of Slidell, La.; five grandchildren, Tracy Roberson, Sandra Zeiler, Gary Ray Myrick, Jr., Katie Rowley and Kerri Perkins; sixteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

•–––––DENTON, Texas — Violet Langford Oldham Brantley, 94, of Denton, Texas, died on Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at Denton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Denton, Texas. She was born on June 6, 1919, in Rosebud (White County) Arkansas to the late Luther Boone Langford and Salina Missie (Gresham) Langford.

Violet was a long time resident of Conway, Ark., where she was Secretary of the Selective Service Board until the office was closed. In 1974 she married James Brantley, Jr. and moved to Memphis, Tenn., where she was employed at the Military Depot until her retirement in 1983. They then moved to Bella Vista, Ark., where they resided for 17 years.

In retirement, Violet was active in the Bella Vista United Methodist Church Choir and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE). She also enjoyed gardening and her garden club.

In August of 2000, they moved to Denton, Texas, because of declining health. James died in December of 2000.

Violet is survived by her daughter, Thyla Oldham Hogan and sonin-law, Turner Hogan of Denton, Texas; two granddaughters, Holly Hogan Downey and husband, Rusty Downey of Columbus, Ind., and Helen Hogan Harris and husband, David Harris of Wheaton, Ill. Also surviving is one sister, Ozie Stapleton, of Conway. Violet’s six great-grandchildren are Jacob Downey, McKenna Downey, and Savannah Downey of Columbus, Ind., and Zachary Harris, Shepard Harris and Darby Harris of Wheaton, Ill.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home, Conway with Reverend John Greer officiating. Burial will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2-3 p.m., preceding the service on Friday.
