A Little Rock man was fatally shot in his apartment early Thursday after he answered a knock at the door, police said.

It happened about 2:20 a.m. at 44-year-old Gary Fitzgerald's apartment at 1517 College St.

Fitzgerald's 21-year-old daughter told authorities she was in her room in the apartment when she heard a knock at the door and then heard her father answer it.

The woman said she then heard up to four gunshots and found her father shot.

Fitzgerald was dead at the scene when authorities arrived.

No arrests have been made.

Upsetting that a daughter would have to see her father die in this manner. I have seen someone die before my eyes and the person was innocent and unrelated to me! I am sure this young lady loved her father!

Ronnie, you can't say it's a dope deal gone bad just by the street address. Could have been an xBF of the daughter. But I agree w/ Mr. HARRISON, if you go to the door at 2:20 a.m, go prepared.
