AARP Meeting

MAUMELLE — The Maumelle AARP Chapter will install its 2014 officers at the group’s regular monthly meeting at 6 p.m. in the Maumelle Senior Wellness Center. New officers are Betty Hall, president; Jim Alberson, vice president; Ann Miller, secretary; and Barbara Wade, treasurer. Newcomers Coffee

CONWAY — The Newcomers Club will have its monthly luncheon at 11 a.m. at the Hole in the Wall café at the Old Gin Mill. The program will be Jazzercise for the young at heart, and Paige Revis will be the demonstrator.

Trout Day Rescheduling

RUSSELLVILLE — Trout Day has been rescheduled for Saturday. The event, hosted by the Caddis Fly Fishing Club, the Russellville Recreation and Parks Department, and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at Pleasant View Park. A fishing license and trout permit (stamp) are required for people 16 or older, and all trout regulations will be enforced. Winter at the Lake

RUSSELLVILLE — On Saturday, Lake Dardanelle State Park will hold Winter at the Lake, an event filled with programs, crafts and refreshments geared to educate participants on how winter affects nature. Activities will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Attendees will have an opportunity to make edible ornaments for birds. Eagle Awareness Weekend

PETIT JEAN MOUNTAIN — On Saturday and Sunday, Petit Jean State Park will kick off its 2014 slate of special events and activities with Eagle Awareness Weekend, two days devoted to teaching attendees about the bald eagle. Programs will include field trips to the nearby Holla Bend National Wildlife Refuge to look for wintering eagles and other birds. Affordable Care Act

RUSSELLVILLE — The Arkansas Tech Small Business and Technology Development Center will present a free business seminar, Informed Businesses: Navigating the Affordable Care Act, from 3-5 p.m. at the Morrilton Area Chamber of Commerce. Participants will learn about new tax, IRS reporting and employee notification requirements for businesses; available tax credits, potential rebates and premium reduction programs; and penalties for noncompliance. Quilt Show

MORRILTON — The quilt show at the Rialto Gallery will be up until Jan. 25. The gallery is open from 11 a.m. 2 p.m. every Friday and Saturday. Master Naturalists Class of 2014

CONWAY — The Central Arkansas Master Naturalists are accepting applications for the class of 2014. Training will begin Sunday at the Witt Stephens Nature Center in Little Rock’s River Market District. The mission of the Master Naturalists organization is to develop a corps of well-informed volunteers to provide education, outreach and service dedicated to the beneficial management of natural resources and natural areas in their communities. Driver Safety Program

HEBER SPRINGS — There will be an AARP Driver Safety Program class from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 17. The class will meet in the McCoy Room of the Administration/Student Services Building at Arkansas State University-Heber Springs. Individuals age 55 and older who complete the course will qualify for a three-year discount on their automobile-insurance premiums in Arkansas. Ozark Pickin’ & Singin’

CONWAY — A family bluegrass concert will be held from 7:30-9 p.m. Feb. 8 in the Conway High School Auditorium, 2300 Prince St. Doors will open at 7 p.m. with general seating. Tickets will be sold at the door for $10. Children younger than 12 will be admitted free. The concert is sponsored by the Committee of 100, a volunteer advocacy group for Ozark Folk Center State Park in Mountain View. Proceeds will benefit Folk Center educational programs such as historic crafts interpretation, the Heritage Herb Garden and Music Roots, an instructional program to preserve Ozark Mountain music.

Sweetheart Dinner/Dance

MORRILTON — The annual Sweetheart Dinner/Dance sponsored by the General Federated Women’s Club’s Adelaide Club of Morrilton will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Morrilton. The pork-chop dinner will be prepared and served by the Knights, and desserts will be provided by members of the Adelaide Club. Jim Aldridge, vocalist, showman and sax man, along with his partner, Kern Kennedy, on keyboard, will entertain and provide music for the dance.
