LITTLE ROCK — At least 14,000 Arkansas immigrants could benefit from President Barack Obama's executive action aimed at sparing nearly 5 million people in the U.S. from being deported.
The estimate from the immigrant-advocacy group Arkansas United Community Coalition came a day after Obama announced the sweeping immigration action -- which was panned by Arkansas politicians but hailed by human rights activists.
An official at the state's Department of Finance and Administration didn't immediately have estimates Friday on any additional resources state agencies would need -- and how much they would all cost -- for providing services to thousands more immigrants.
The main beneficiaries of the president's actions are immigrants who have been in the U.S. illegally for more than five years but whose children are citizens or lawful permanent residents.
