Humphrey throws 7 TDs, powers Harrison

HARRISON -- Quarterback Brock Humphrey began his senior campaign with a bang Friday night, completed 25 of 35 passes for 436 yards and 7 touchdowns to lead the Harrison Goblins to a 61-21 victory over rival Mountain Home in the season opener at F.S. Garrison Stadium.

Humphrey threw touchdown passes of 31, 18, 29, 11, 14, 62 and 96 yards while also rushing for one. Junior Kanon Kirkland caught four of those touchdown passes while Alex Wright, Hunter Humphrey and Hunter Marshall caught the other three.

"Brock did just a great job out there tonight," Harrison Coach Chad Harbison. "He always does a great job of moving around and finding those open receivers. I thought our offensive line did a great job of protecting him tonight and he had an incredible night back there."

Harrison went up 21-0 before the Bombers even touched the ball on offense thanks to two onside kicks.

Brock Humphrey threw touchdown passes to Kirkland, Wright and his twin Hunter Humphrey in a span of 4:38. And when the Bombers finally did have the ball, they rushed two times for a minus-5 yards before fumbling the ball back to Harrison.

On their ensuing drive, the Goblins needed 10 plays to reach the end zone again, capped by Brock Humphrey's second scoring pass to Kirkland to make it 28-0. The Goblins then went to the onside kick one too many times as Mountain Home's Josh Newton caught the short kick and rumbled 50 yards to the end zone to finally get the Bombers on the scoreboard.

Harrison's next touchdown was a 1-yard run by Brock Humphrey. Mountain Home answered with a 12-play drive and quarterback Zane Walker capped it with a 3-yard touchdown run to cut the lead to 35-14.

The Goblins scored two more touchdowns in the half -- including a 62-yard scoring reception by Kirkland -- and got a 25-yard field goal by Jordan Reeves for a 52-14 lead at halftime.

With the clock running in the second half, Harrison scored one more touchdown when Kirkland turned a 10-yard dump pass by Brock Humphrey into a 92-yard touchdown play. Cody Yocham kicked a 30-yard field goal for Harrison and Mountain Home got a 21-yard touchdown run by Newton.

Kirkland finished the game with nine receptions for 230 yards.

Walker ran for 104 yards and Newton had 82 yards for Mountain Home.

About the only things that went wrong for Harrison in the contest were the ejections of linebacker and kicker Jordan Reeves on separate incidents. Both players will have to sit out next week's game at Siloam Springs.
