Teen gets 50 years in burglary, assault

WEST MEMPHIS -- A West Memphis teen accused of beating an 81-year-old woman during an April burglary of the woman's home was sentenced to 50 years in prison Friday, Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ellington said.

Ramon Huntley, 17, pleaded guilty in Crittenden County Circuit Court to one count each of aggravated residential burglary and aggravated robbery. Circuit Judge Ralph Wilson sentenced Huntley to 50 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction.

Huntley and Terrio Pope, 19, of West Memphis were arrested in the April 14 burglary of Ruth Allene Durdin's home. Huntley also was charged with first-degree battery.

Crittenden County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney J. Matthew Coe of West Memphis prosecuted the case and negotiated the plea, Ellington said.

Pope remains on the court docket and will be tried later.
