Meeting set on Corps' munitions removal project

CONWAY — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is holding a public meeting this week to discuss the forthcoming munitions removal project at the former Camp Robinson site in Faulkner County.

The meeting is planned for 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Hampton Inn on Museum Road in Conway.

The former Camp Robinson was used as an infantry division training center and later as an infantry replacement training area. Troops were trained with rifles, pistols, machine guns, grenades and mortars, along with other field artillery.

The Corps says the removal project will take place north of Arkansas 89 at the east end of Moody Road and along Stone Mountain Road near the intersection with Dreamers Lane. Anyone who lives near the site or owns property there is encouraged to attend the meeting.
