FAYETTEVILLE — Corliss Williamson isn’t worried about Derek Fisher.

The New York Knicks finished 17-65 last season in Fisher’s debut as the team’s head coach, but Williamson said he’s confident his longtime friend will turn the Knicks into winners.

Williamson and Fisher, former NBA players and Arkansas natives, have known each other since they were AAU teammates in the fifth grade. They continue to stay in touch.

“Derek’s fine, he’s doing well,” Williamson, a Sacramento Kings assistant coach, said during a visit to Northwest Arkansas earlier this summer. “He understood when he took the Knicks job it was going to be a pretty tough process trying to get that team on the winning track, but he accepted the challenge.”
