Maritime museum to give away lunch

The 10th anniversary of the Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum, 120 Riverfront Drive in North Little Rock, will be marked with lunch giveaways for anyone who buys a tour or makes a donation during May 23 museum hours of 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Anyone who purchases a tour of the World War II-era Razorback submarine, the museum's featured attraction, or makes a donation will receive a hot dog, chips and a drink, according to a museum news release. Donations go toward the maintenance of the Razorback and museum.

Memorial Day weekend "is an opportunity to reflect on the fallen, show appreciation for our veterans and spend time with family," museum Executive Director Greg Zonner said in the news release. "We hope families and people will come by to experience a piece of American history first-hand and enjoy a lunch on us."

Admission to the submarine is $7.50 for adults. Admission for military members, children ages 5-12, and adults 62 and older is $5. Touring the museum only costs $2.

Women's Hall nods are due Wednesday

Submissions for a planned Arkansas Women's Hall of Fame to be headquartered in North Little Rock are due Wednesday, according to a project timeline.

The Women's Hall of Fame is proposed as a way to "honor and celebrate the significant contributions of past and present Arkansas women," according to a project description. No permanent location has been chosen for the project, so it will begin as a mobile exhibit that travels statewide.

The impetus for the project, announced in December, came from North Little Rock Chamber of Commerce President Terry Hartwick, who created a partnership between the chamber and Arkansas Business Publishing Group to create the hall.

Nominations will go to a panel of judges, and the announcement of the initial selections will be made public June 22, according to the timeline. A banquet to honor the first inductees is set for Aug. 27.

Individuals or organizations statewide are being accepted from a list of categories including the arts, community service, athletics and philanthropy. Individuals or a group or class of women jointly associated with a significant event or movement may be nominated. Arkansas Business Publishing Group is compiling the nominations.

Women born in Arkansas who achieved prominence within the state or longtime state residents who attained prominence in Arkansas or elsewhere are eligible, according to guidelines released at a kickoff campaign in December.

For more information on the nominating criteria or the Women's Hall of Fame plans, contact the North Little Rock Chamber of Commerce at 501-372-5959 or email nlrchamber@nlrchamber.org.
