Two Lakeside High School coaches and 10 students have been injured in a Friday afternoon bus crash, officials said. The bus was transporting players to a 7 p.m. game in De Queen.
According to Arkansas State Police, the bus accident occurred about 3:45 p.m. along U.S. 70 near Newhope in Pike County.
Lakeside Athletic Director Don Pierce confirmed that coach H.E. Burchard was injured in the crash.
Eight students were transported to Howard Memorial Hospital in Nashville and two students and two coaches were taken to CHI St. Vincent in Hot Springs, Lakeside School District Superintendent Shawn Cook said.
All injured students and coaches are in stable condition, Cook said, and the eight students treated at Howard Memorial Hospital will be released Friday night.
The identities of the injured students were not released. There were conflicting reports throughout the night on the number of people injured in the crash.
Friday's game has been canceled and will be rescheduled to a later date, Pierce said.
