Where I live: My family and I live on a quiet cul-de-sac in the North Little Rock neighborhood of Lakewood.

Occupation: I am a mom, wife and part-time bookkeeper, but, professionally, I am an artist. I teach pastels at the Arkansas Arts Center and work with the Arkansas Arts Council's Arts In Education program. We work to strengthen the role of the arts in pre-K to 12th grade by incorporating art and linking it to curriculum.

My favorite space is: Our dining room with its walnut table full of indentations, scratches and marks that tell a story of a life well lived.

Why? When my son was little, 19 years ago, I was looking for a sturdy dining room table that could take abuse and grow old with us. As soon as I saw the walnut table with its dark wood, dents and character, I knew it was the one. I love creating memorable moments; entertaining, cooking and celebrating life. Gathering together around this table has always been an essential part of our family life. At this table, meals have been served, games have been played, IQs boosted, grandiose dreams were born, tears were shed, art was created, but best of all, at this table, everyone is family.

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: vault the ceiling to give the space a sense of height.
