Passenger, 38, killed after vehicle leaves road, strikes tree

A Pine Bluff woman was killed after the vehicle she was riding in left a road in Jefferson County on Monday, according to Arkansas State Police.

About 2:36 p.m. Monday, Mini Edwin, 38, was traveling in a southbound 2006 Nissan as a passenger on U.S. 79 when the vehicle veered off the highway and struck a tree, state police said in a preliminary report.

Information regarding the driver of the vehicle, as well as a more detailed description of where the crash occurred, was not included in the report.

Edwin was transported to Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff, where she was later pronounced dead, authorities said.

The death was the fourth so far in 2016 on an Arkansas road, according to preliminary information.

Travel conditions at the time of the crash were described as clear and dry.
