BENTONVILLE -- Chris Sooter announced his bid for re-election for an eighth term on the City Council.

He has served as alderman since November 2002 and holds the Ward 2, Position 2, seat.

Sooter, 40, is a Bentonville native, Advertising and Promotions Commission chairman, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board member, and member of the First United Methodist Church finance and hospitality committees.

He is past president of the Bentonville Public Schools Foundation Board of Directors, past president of the Rotary Club of Bentonville, past member of the Circle of Life Hospice board, a past member of the Bentonville/Bella Vista Chamber of Commerce board, and past president of the YMCA of Northwest Arkansas board.

Sooter has been involved in many committees while on City Council and serves on the Traffic, Safety and Signage, and the Tree and Landscape committees.

He said it has been a privilege to serve the residents of Bentonville the past 14 years during which time unprecedented improvements have been made, noting the passage of the 2008 bond initiative that provided more than $85 million to city improvements.

Sooter is a graduate of Bentonville High School and holds a BSBA in accounting from the University of Arkansas. He's the executive vice president of finance and marketing for Member Services Inc., a marketing and advertising company.

He and his wife, Wendy, have been married 18 years and have two sons, Blake and Sam.
