250 attend soiree to preserve history of farm days in Scott

The 20th annual Scott Connections event, held the evening of May 15 at the Ashley Alexander House, began with cocktails on the lawn and bidding on silent auction items.

A buffet dinner at tables under the historic 1835 home's pecan trees included fried catfish, shrimp, chicken, potato salad, slaw, greens and hush puppies. Dessert was homemade chocolate and peach fried pies, all from Woods Catering in Camden.

About 250 guests attended the event hosted by the board of Scott Connections. More than $25,000 was raised for the Scott Plantation Settlement. Scott Connections collects historical items and preserves the history of plantation and farm life around Scott. The site includes the restored Scott train station, an 1882 plantation home, log cabin, smokehouse and blacksmith shop.
