Hot Springs to mark 80th anniversary of Roosevelt visit

HOT SPRINGS— Hot Springs National Park is planning a special event to mark the 80th anniversary of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's visit to the park.

A guided, walking tour is set for 11 a.m. Friday, beginning at the Fordyce Bathhouse Visitor Center.

Roosevelt visited Arkansas on June 10, 1936, to mark the state's centennial celebration, and he made a stop in Hot Springs. The park said Roosevelt traveled in an open-topped car and shook hands along his route through the national park down Central Avenue.

The guided tour is free and open to the public.
