RED CROSS HEROES

Red Cross salutes heroes with luncheon celebration

The American Red Cross of Greater Arkansas recognized more than a dozen Arkansans "for their lifesaving work" at a luncheon awards program presented by law firm Wright, Lindsey & Jennings LLP on March 4 at the Little Rock Marriott.

The procession of "Heroes" took place before just about as many members of the board of directors.

"I encourage each and every one of you," Greg Williams told the roughly 300 gathered inside the ballroom, if "you get an opportunity to serve on this board, take it."

Williams accepted the Clara Barton Distinguished Humanitarian of the Year award on behalf of Nabholz Construction.

The blood donor hero Mark Felling was absent -- perhaps Felling was feeling too drained -- but he was applauded for a body of contributions amounting to 450 transfusions.

The medical/EMT heroes were Jon Rowe of Little Rock and Steven Hicks of Benton.

Other heroes included Lacie Williams of Jessieville, Caddo Lowery of Hot Springs, Jimmy Maxwell of Romance, Jeff Simpson of Searcy, Braelyn Beasley of Magnolia and Jared Watts, Stacy King, Freedom Jones, Joshua Karriem, Michael Doan and Brody Channel, all of Little Rock.
