Sooners hold off Trojans’ charge

NORMAN, Okla. — Peyton Little made 3 three-pointers and scored 17 points, Vionise Pierre-Louis finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds, and No. 16 Oklahoma held off UALR 68-58 on Wednesday night at the Lloyd Noble Center.

UALR pulled to 56-52 early in the fourth quarter on Sharde Collins’s basket, but that’s as close as the Trojans would get the rest of the way. T’ona Edwards scored four points during Oklahoma’s 6-0 run to take a 10-point lead with 4:26 left. It was the first double-digit lead for either team.

Maddie Manning added nine points and five rebounds for Oklahoma (2-0).

Little scored 10 consecutive Oklahoma points — including back-to-back three-pointers — to give the Sooners a 28-24 lead late in the second quarter. The Sooners had a 34-33 lead at halftime and it was 54-48 after three quarters.

Collins was 9-of-22 shooting for 23 points for UALR (1-2). Kaitlyn Pratt added 10 points and Raeyana DeGray finished with 8 points and 7 rebounds.

The Trojans travel to New York on Saturday to face Fordham in the Preseason WNIT before returning to the Jack Stephens Center on Wednesday to play Texas A&M.

AUSTIN PEAY 62,

ARKANSAS STATE 55

Falon Baker and Bri Williams each scored 11 points as Austin Peay (2-1) defeated Arkansas State (0-2) at the Dunn Center in Clarksville, Tenn.

Austin Peay led 28-27 at halftime, but ASU took a 43-42 lead at the end of the third quarter.

The Governors used an 8-0 run to lead 50-43 with 7:32 remaining. Williams’ two free throws pushed the Austin Peay advantage to 56-46 with 3:10 left.

Brittany Fowler’s three-pointer cut the lead to 56-55 with 33 seconds remaining, but Austin Peay sealed the victory at the free-throw line, going 6 of 8.

Fowler led ASU with 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting. Tahlon Hopkins had eight points and Dominique Oliver and Starr Taylor each added seven points.

The Red Wolves were held to 29.3 percent shooting (17 of 58) and were outrebounded 44-36.
