Arkansas child killed, 3 others hurt when pickup overturns

A single-vehicle accident early Monday in Prairie County left a child dead and three others in a pickup hurt, according to Arkansas State Police.

The crash occurred around 3:17 a.m. when a 1998 Chevrolet pickup driven by 20-year-old Stewart Hitt of Des Arc veered off Simmons Road into a ditch, authorities said in a preliminary report. At that point, the northbound vehicle hit an embankment and overturned.

A minor from McRae traveling as a passenger was killed. Another minor as well as Hitt and 19-year-old Alec Huffstickler of Conway were hurt, the report states. Their exact conditions were not immediately known.

State police said travel conditions were clear and dry at the time of the crash.
