State police: 14-year-old Arkansas girl hit by pickup while trying to get on school bus

A 14-year-old girl was hospitalized after being hit by a pickup while trying to get on a school bus Thursday morning, authorities said.

Arkansas State Police said the girl was struck by a vehicle traveling west about 7 a.m. while crossing Arkansas 86, west of Holly Grove, to get to the bus, which was traveling east.

She was transported to a nearby hospital for minor injuries, agency spokesman Liz Chapman said.

State police are interviewing witnesses to determine whether the bus was stopped with its sign illuminated to signal oncoming traffic.

The pickup's driver is a minor and was issued a citation on a charge of violating a restricted driver's license, Chapman said.

A dispatcher at the Monroe County sheriff's office confirmed the girl's age as 14.
