3 youths assault, try to rob LR man

A Little Rock man was hurt by three strangers who tried to rob him Thursday evening, witnesses told police.

It happened about 5:40 p.m. in the 1600 block of South Battery Street, according to a report from the city's Police Department.

Witnesses told officers that three people followed the 21-year-old victim down the street and struck him in the head from behind. He struggled with the assailants over his phone but was able to break free and run to a nearby yard, according to the witnesses' statements.

A 39-year-old woman said the attackers appeared to be high school-age, the report said. Police noted the 21-year-old victim refused medical treatment for a small cut over his right eye that had mild swelling.

No items were reported stolen.

Police had named no suspects and made no arrests at the time of the report.

NLR DWI suspect had 4 kids in car

A North Little Rock man suspected of driving while intoxicated was arrested after an officer found four children in his vehicle, police said.

Timothy Staten, 31, faces four counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor, among other charges, records show.

Shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Staten, according to a North Little Rock Police Department report.

Staten had a blood alcohol content of 0.28 percent and was arrested in the area of 22nd Street and Pike Avenue, police said. The legal driving limit for blood alcohol content is 0.08 percent.

Records show Staten remained at the Pulaski County jail as of Friday night in lieu of $10,000 bond. He has a court appearance set for Tuesday.

Stolen forklift taken for a short joyride

A forklift was stolen from a North Little Rock warehouse was later found nearby with plastic wrap around its steering wheel and controls, authorities said.

The theft happened between 6 p.m. Wednesday and early Thursday, a 29-year-old supervisor at Onyx Corp., 1601 Gregory St., told officers. When employees arrived Thursday, they noticed that one of three forklifts parked at the north end of the business was missing, according to a report from the city's Police Department.

The supervisor said a large door that connects the warehouse to one belonging to the Salvation Army was opened and likely allowed someone to enter the Onyx property.

The forklift was later recovered about three-tenths of a mile away, police said. Plastic wrap was on the steering wheel and controls, the report states. A single black glove was also found.

Police had named no suspects and made no arrests at the time of the report.
