Police said a pursuit in central Arkansas on Thursday night that reached speeds of more than 100 mph ended with an officer firing shots at a suspect.

According to a statement from the Conway Police Department, the chase began on Dave Ward Drive about 10 p.m. when an officer tried to stop a vehicle.

The driver fled and "led officers on a pursuit that at one point hit a speed of 104 mph," the agency said. One officer fired shots at the vehicle, and the car later crashed, according to police.

The driver ran away and was not caught, according to the statement. Authorities do not believe he was struck by gunfire.

The officer who fired was not identified. The agency said the officer is on paid administrative leave while an investigation is ongoing.
