Police: Woman found dead in North Little Rock backyard after attempted home invasion report

North Little Rock police found a dead woman in the backyard of a home after responding to an attempted home invasion, authorities said late Friday.

The homeowner at 2223 W. Short 17th Street called 911 at approximately 5:30 p.m. Friday and told the dispatcher someone was attempting to break into his home, North Little Rock police spokeswoman Officer Carmen Helton said.

Later in the phone call, Helton said the homeowner told the dispatcher a “shot had been fired,” though he did not specify who had fired the weapon.

When officers arrived on scene, Helton said they found a dead woman in the man’s backyard. Whether the woman had died from a gunshot wound was not immediately released.

Helton said the homeowner was in the police station interviewing with detectives as of late Friday night.
