Preston Bynum, who was once the only Republican in the Arkansas House of Representatives, died early this morning at his home in Lakeland, Fla.
He was 79.
Bynum died of heart failure, said his wife, Ann Bailey Bynum.
A Siloam Springs native, Preston Bynum served in the House from 1968 to 1981 and was chief of staff for Gov. Frank White from 1981 to 1983.
From 1983 to 1985, he worked for Stephens Inc. Bynum also served prison time in the 1990s in connection with a bribery charge.
