2 killed when tractor-trailer overturns on I-40, Arkansas State Police say

Two North Carolina men died Sunday when the tractor-trailer they were traveling in hit a tree and overturned along Interstate 40, according to a preliminary crash report.

Arkansas State Police said 47-year-old Dallas Jones, of Mount Airy, N.C., was driving a 2015 Freightliner west on the interstate in Pope County when the truck drifted left into the median.

As the driver overcorrected to the right, he crossed both lanes of traffic and drove over the guard rail on the shoulder, hitting a tree, the report states.

Troopers wrote that the trailer then overturned, along with the tractor.

Jones and a passenger, identified as 59-year-old Wade Blevins of Lansing, N.C., suffered fatal injuries, police said.

Weather conditions were described as clear and dry at the time of the wreck.

At least 347 people have died in crashes on Arkansas roads so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
