Meetings planned in 5 cities on education, engagement

The State Coalition on Family and Community Engagement will hold regional meetings in five cities next month to get feedback on a draft of family and community engagement resources.

The coalition is made up of state Board of Education members, staff members who work at the Arkansas Department of Education and representatives of other stakeholder groups in response to the federal Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015. The federal law calls for districts to state expectations and objectives for meaningful community and family engagement in public education.

Morning and evening options are available at each location.

• Oct. 3: 9:30-11 a.m., and 6-7:30 p.m., St. Bernards hospital auditorium, 505 E. Washington Ave., Jonesboro.

• Oct. 5: 9-10:30 a.m., and 6:30-8 p.m., Boys and Girls Club, 1840 W. Moline St., Malvern.

• Oct. 17 -- 9:30-11 a.m., and 6-7:30 p.m., Carroll Electric Cooperative, 5056 U.S. 412B, Huntsville.

• Oct. 23: 9:30-11 a.m., and 6:30-8 p.m., Boys and Girls Club, 205 Washington Ave., McGehee, 71654.

• Oct. 25: 9-10:30 a.m., and 6:30-8 p.m., Philander Smith College's Kendall Building in Nugent Hall, 900 W. Daisy L. Gatson Bates Drive, Little Rock.
