Prosecutor rules that Little Rock man was justified in killing 20-year-old, police say

A prosecutor has ruled that a months-ago Little Rock homicide was justified, according to a police report released Tuesday.

The afternoon of May 11, officers were called to a shooting at 6300 Colonel Glenn Road and found 20-year-old De Anthony Hill of Jacksonville with gunshot wounds, authorities said. Hill, whose first name was previously reported as Danthony, died of his injuries.

At that time, Martez Johnson, 32, was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a minor and possession of a firearm by certain persons, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette previously reported.

He told police he fatally shot the 20-year-old in self-defense after Hill tried to rob him. Johnson, who sustained a gunshot wound to his hand, also said that his child was present during the robbery try and shooting, the Democrat-Gazette previously reported.

On Sept. 14, the Pulaski County prosecutor’s office ruled that the homicide was justified, police said.

Johnson has pleaded not guilty to endangering the welfare of a minor and the possession of a firearm charge, according to online court records.

There have been 25 homicides reported in Arkansas' capital city in 2018.
