Patients' artwork to be showcased

The nonprofit Thea Foundation will exhibit works by Arkansas Children's Hospital patients during October in its gallery space at 401 Main St. in North Little Rock.

A reception is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Oct. 19 during the Third Friday Argenta Art Walk. Hamid Ebrahimifar and Elizabeth Weber, the hospital's two artists-in-residence, will talk about the works and their program at the hospital during the reception.

The hospital's artists-in-residence are funded by an In School Residency Grant from the Arkansas Arts Council and Child Life and Education donors. The artists oversee art projects that support the core curriculum, both in the classroom setting and at the bedside. Through the program, they teach patients and their families about the art process and how they can be successful at art.

Exhibits will be available to the public during regular gallery hours of 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. Visitors are encouraged to call ahead to (501) 379-0512 to make sure the gallery is open in case staff members are out of the office.

Tickets available for fish-fry benefit

Tickets are available for the 32nd annual Friendly Chapel Fish Fry, which will be held 5 p.m.-8 p.m. Oct. 19 at Verizon Arena.

The event has drawn as many as 4,000 attendees for a dinner of fried fish and chicken cooked and served by volunteers, including several elected city officials.

The dinner raises money for meals for local adults and children over the next year through Brother Paul's Soup Kitchen and Shelter at the Friendly Chapel of the Nazarene in North Little Rock.

Paul Holderfield Jr., the church's pastor, took over the fish-fry tradition in 1998 after the death of his father "Brother Paul" Holderfield, who founded the church in 1972.

Ticket information is available by calling Friendly Chapel at (501) 371-0912.
