OLLI

sets classes

The Osher Lifelong Institute at the University of Arkansas announces the following classes for the upcoming week:

April 24: "See the Best Aquarium in the U.S. ... and the World of Wildlife, As Well!" The Wonders of Wildlife National Museum and Aquarium is the largest immersive wildlife attraction in the world, and it is just up the road in Springfield, Mo.

The Aquarium was voted the best in the U.S. in 2017; in the same year, the Museum of Wildlife was voted the top New Attraction in the U.S. The World of Wildlife Museum features more than 1.5 miles of immersive indoor trails and exhibits housed in 350,000 square feet of displays; the aquarium is an astounding 1.5 million gallon showcase for both salt and fresh water fish, mammals, reptiles and birds. Both these wonders are attached to the world-famous Bass Pro Shop in Springfield.

The tours are self directed, but there are "guides" everywhere to answer questions and give directions; the time estimated to see both exhibits is three to four hours. The OLLI tour will break this into two segments, separated by a Dutch treat lunch in the Hemingway's Restaurant upstairs in the Bass Pro Shop. This is an immense show and participants will be free to set their own pace; there are seating areas/refreshment areas throughout the entire exhibit area and in the Bass Pro Shop, but there is no escaping the need to walk and stand for lengthy periods.

Price includes admission to aquarium. $60 members, $75 nonmembers. Transportation rates available.

April 25: "Hike to Lake Alma & Petroglyph Site." $22 members, $37 nonmembers. Transportation rates available.

April 26: "Downtown Sustainability Walking Tour." $22 members, $37 nonmembers.

April 29: "Talent, Luck, Courage/One of the Lucky Ones." $27 members, $42 nonmembers.
