Conway missions center named ‘best workplace’

A global missions center in Conway was announced Tuesday as a certified January-June 2019 Best Christian Workplace, one of 89 organizations out of thousands to be recognized by the Washington-based consulting firm, according to a news release.

The Baptist Missionary Association of America, a group of approximately 1,200 affiliated, autonomous churches throughout the United States, houses Lifeword, the association’s media ministry that broadcasts the gospel internationally in 60 languages; and BMA Missions, its missionary sending agency in Conway.

John Meriweather, the association’s director of operations, said the Conway staff comprises 28 employees that support the association’s national work and its two global missions departments, the latter of which he said currently has 600 U.S.-based missionaries serving in 81 countries.

The Best Christian Workplaces Institute, which also recognized the association last year, measures workplaces based on the results of an employee-engagement survey, which considers factors including “life-giving work” and “inspirational leadership” when assessing employers.

Meriweather said the certification was an honor for the association, and said the recognition belongs to “our amazing staff.”

“We are blessed with an incredibly talented and committed staff of people [who] are passionate about our mission — which is to see people all around the world come to know Jesus Christ,” Meriweather said Thursday. “… We are passionate about our mission, because we are passionate about Jesus.”
