Ham Radio

Bella Vista radio amateur Glenn Kilpatrick received a "Ham of the Year" award at the December meeting of the Bella Vista Radio Club. Kilpatrick, who is the outgoing president for the club, won the designation from among all licensed "hams" across the four-state region of Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana and Arkansas.

The award was presented on Dec. 5 at Highland Christian Church by David Norris of Redfield. Norris is the multi-state Delta Division director of the American Radio Relay League, which is amateur radio's national association.

The citation was for Kilpatrick's years of service to the amateur radio hobby and the local radio club, which has grown to the largest radio and electronics club in Northwest Arkansas and Southwest Missouri under his leadership, numbering more than 125 regional members.

New BVRC officers have been elected for 2020. The incoming president is Tom Northfell of Fayetteville, while Don Banta of Springdale is the new vice president. Bella Vistans Wayne Patton and Marc Whittlesey will continue as secretary and treasurer for the club, respectively.

The group meets on the first Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at Highland Christian Church, 1500 Forest Hills Blvd. in Bella Vista. Anyone interested in learning more about the amateur radio hobby is invited to attend.
