A woman is recovering after she was shot in the face with a crossbow in Cross County on Monday evening, authorities said.
Deputies responded to a home on Cross County Road 727 at about 6:20 p.m. after receiving a call about a woman being shot with a crossbow, according to a news release by the sheriff’s office. After arriving, authorities determined the victim had already left for the hospital, the release states.
Authorities arrested Joseph Avellino, 34, of Wynne and charged him with first-degree battery and three counts of endangering the welfare of a minor. He is being held at Cross County jail, according to an online roster.
Deputies did not provide details on the victim's condition or on a suspected motive. A message left with the sheriff's office seeking additional information wasn't immediately returned on Tuesday morning.
