3 motorists, 1 pedestrian die in accidents across Arkansas

At least four people have died since Saturday after separate accidents on Arkansas roads.

A 26-year-old Oklahoma woman was killed Monday afternoon in a crash that occurred after she swerved to avoid a collision on U.S. 65 in Greenbrier in central Arkansas, police said.

Dakota Scoggins was traveling north on the highway in a 2016 Hyundai shortly after noon when she swerved to avoid an earlier wreck, the Arkansas State Police wrote in a preliminary report.

The Hyundai went into the opposing lane, where a southbound 2006 Ford hit its passenger side, the report said.

Scoggins, of Maysville, Okla., suffered fatal injuries. The Ford driver, 42-year-old Louis Smith of North Little Rock, was listed as being hurt, though the report didn't detail the extent of his injuries.

Conditions at the time of the crash were reported by police as overcast and wet.

Traffic was blocked in the area for about an hour and 45 minutes while crews investigated the crash and cleared the scene.

A 57-year-old man was killed and two other people were injured in a head-on crash Monday afternoon on a state highway in northeast Arkansas, authorities said.

Monday's fatality happened shortly before 12:30 p.m. on Arkansas 14 west of Locust Grove in Independence County, according to an Arkansas State Police report.

Police said a 1999 Honda was traveling east and had "just exited a curve" when it collided with a westbound 2017 GMC that was about to enter the curve. The report didn't indicate which vehicle crossed the centerline, and it noted that the investigation was ongoing.

A passenger in the Honda, Adalberto Diaz of Mountain View, suffered fatal injuries. Both drivers were also listed as being hurt, though the report didn't detail the extent of their injuries.

A 60-year-old man died a week after being hit by multiple vehicles while trying to walk across Interstate 49.

Jesus Diaz of Springdale died Saturday, a week after he was hit near the Fulbright Expressway exit, according to an Arkansas State Police report.

Police said Diaz was hit by several vehicles and taken to Washington Regional Medical Center about 11:30 a.m. Dec. 22. No other injuries were reported.

A 33-year-old man who was reported missing Sunday has been found dead in a vehicle submerged in a Miller County bayou, authorities said.

Police said Reuben Madison of Texarkana, Texas was driving west on U.S. 82 near the 13 mile marker at about 4 a.m. when his 2006 Jeep Cherokee left the road and became submerged in McKinney Bayou.

Conditions were rainy at the time of the wreck, troopers said.

"It appears he failed to negotiate a curve and went off the bridge into the water," said Arkansas State Police Capt. Brady Gore.

According to Gore, Madison left a relative's home about half an hour before troopers believe he crashed.

"He left and was supposed to go home to Texarkana, but he never returned home," Gore said.

State police said the Texarkana man's Jeep was spotted early Monday, and his body was found at about 8 a.m.
