Lucie's Place party lauds new director

Lucie's Place Holiday Party was held Dec. 11 in its offices and the Drop-in Center.

The festive event was not only a way to celebrate the holidays but to recognize the new executive director, the Rev. Johnette Fitzjohn, and to show appreciation to founder and former director Penelope Poppers.

While guests enjoyed food and drink from Lost Forty Brewing, Fitzjohn told them that her welcome had been overwhelming and talked about Poppers' work at the nonprofit, praising Poppers for having had the vision to see the need for and establish an LGBT-specific shelter.

Founded in 2012 by Poppers, Lucie's Place provides a variety of services for homeless lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender young adults, including safe living environments, job training and counseling services.
